The Giant Spider[1] (alternatively known as the Spider[2][3]) is the larger counterpart of Small Spiders and a mini-boss in Donkey Kong 64. The Giant Spider has been described as both a male[4] or female[3][5] spider. As a female, it is suggested to be the mother of the Small Spiders.[3][5]
The Giant Spider can be fought by Tiny Kong inside the mill of Fungi Forest, only accessible at night. The battle starts when Tiny walks on a large spider web below the Giant Spider. The Giant Spider wakes up and drops from resting spot on the ceiling, dangling from a thin spider web string. It summons three Small Spiders to attack Tiny Kong before returning to sleep. As Tiny is being chased by Small Spiders, the Giant Spider spits out two types of obstacles, red webbing or green phlegm, which trap her in ice and reverse the directions, respectively. Since the Giant Spider is asleep, it cannot accurate spit at Tiny. After Tiny defeats the three Small Spiders, the Giant Spider briefly wakes up, and the Giant Spider can take damage from Tiny using her Feather Bow to shoot at its opened eye. The events of the battle repeat themselves four more times until after a fifth hit, when the Giant Spider spins around, falls off its string, and crashes into the wall. It then shrinks into a Small Spider, which Tiny can defeat in the same manner as. After a final hit, the Giant Spider falls on its back and disappears, then Tiny is awarded with a Golden Banana.
